THE ABRAHAM DIET PORTION SIZE EXPLAINED:

The Abraham diet, developed from an Oxford study, helps participants reduce food intake by measuring portions using their hands.


The daily intake includes:

• Three fist-sized servings of carbohydrates (e.g. pasta, rice, bread, cereals, quinoa)

• Three palm-sized servings of lean protein (e.g. fish, meat, poultry, eggs, tofu, legumes)

• Three cupped handfuls of vegetables or salad (e.g. greens, root vegetables, excluding potatoes)

• Two fist-sized servings of fruit (e.g. fresh, frozen, or canned in natural juice)

• Two thumb-sized servings of fat or oil (e.g. vegetable oil, butter)


The diet recommends adding 200ml of skimmed or semi-skimmed milk or two 125g pots of low-calorie yogurt.


Participants lost 0.5 to 1kg per week, and after six weeks, they reduced visceral fat by 14%, along with decreases in cholesterol, blood pressure, and a 5cm waistline reduction—without extra exercise.
