WHEN TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT BLOATING:

You should see your GP if you feel bloated a lot, if it lasts for 3 weeks or more, or if it keeps happening despite changes to your diet. You should also get medical advice if you are bloated regularly (more than 12 times a month), if you notice a swelling or lump in your tummy, or if bloating comes with other symptoms such as sickness, diarrhoea, constipation, weight loss or blood in your poo, or if it starts to affect your daily activities. These symptoms can sometimes point to an underlying digestive problem or, more rarely, something serious, so it’s important to get checked. Seek emergency care or call 999 if you develop sudden or severe tummy pain, cannot pee, poo or pass wind, are vomiting blood, have bloody or black poo, have chest pain, or are struggling to breathe.
